Things I Forgot About Fall

It's hard to believe that we only have one week of October left.  I feel like it was only yesterday that Starbucks started selling those cute little fall cups with leaves on them.  This season has been both fun and surprising to me - mainly because I think that over the six years that I spent in the Midwest, I forgot what fall looks like in Texas!

Cooking at Home 101

Last week, Steve and I finally confessed the obvious: we love to go out to eat.  Both of us have had busy work schedules since we got married, so cooking at home was almost an afterthought for the last three years.  In an effort to clean up my own eating, and also to reign in the food allocation in our budget, I decided to finally give actual meal prep a try.  And I am happy to say that it was quite the success!  In an effort to keep myself accountable (and to also share some easy recipes for other ladies on the go who are looking to cook more), I'm going to document my cooking-at-home efforts here.

I work pretty late these days and Steve's evenings are booked with networking events and bible study, so the top priority for our household is easy meals that can be reheated and used for leftovers.

Friday Five

Happy Friday!  This week has been a busy one, so I'm really looking forward to the weekend.  We're starting the weekend off with a football game, followed by two glorious days of Texas fall weather.  I can't wait.

I've got five silver linings lined up for you on this beautiful Friday morning:

Red River Shootout

Last weekend was a big one in our household.  With my sister being a University of Texas alum, my family has rooted for the Longhorns for years.  UT plays Oklahoma every year in the Red River Shootout and, for my non-Texan friends out there, this game is a big freaking deal.  The game is held every year at the Cotton Bowl just south of downtown Dallas.  (Fun fact: I can actually see the Cotton Bowl from my office!)  I guess Dallas is considered a "neutral zone" between Austin and Norman, so UT and OU fans flood the city the weekend of the game.  The Cotton Bowl is on the Texas state fairgrounds, and of course the state fair is in full swing during the game, too.

So, Steve's first Texas football experience + my first time in the Cotton Bowl + first trip to the Texas State Fair...like I said - it was a big weekend in our household!

Celebrations Galore

Last weekend, we headed up to Indiana for a long weekend full of celebrations.  The fun began with a surprise welcome at the airport when I landed.  I miss my small group girls like crazy and seeing them all lined up for me with these homemade signs made me weepy.  I love these ladies!  #lylas

So Long Summer: Washington DC Wedding

In August, Steve and I flew out to Washington D.C. to celebrate the wedding of a friend from law school.  Jon and Steve were best friends in school and won our school's moot court competition together.  They are cut from the same cloth and Steve was really excited to be a part of Jon's special day as a groomsman.
