houseboat trip - part 2

(This is Part 2 of our houseboat vacation to Lake Ouachita.  You can read Part 1 here!)

One of the things I really enjoy most about house boating is the balance between physical activity (wake surfing, wake boarding, skiing, etc) and relaxing.  We made sure to do our fair share of both on this trip.

I’d characterize my family as definitely an “active” bunch, though - after too much relaxing, we get bored.  Soon, we were off for more adventures.

We had a really special adventure during one of our afternoon boating trips - we saw a bald eagle.  But the excitement didn’t stop there.  This beautiful bird took flight right after we took this picture and we raced along next to it for five minutes - at 40 mph.  Bald eagles sure can fly!

Between boat rides and jumping off of boats, cliff jumping and skiing, we pretty much did it all.  I’d like to think of my family as house boating pros, after all.

I have to give a special shout out to this guy.  He had never been on a houseboat before, nor had he done any water sports.  But he took to the water like a natural and learned how to wake surf, wakeboard, ski and slalom all in the course of four days!  I really enjoyed seeing a new side of him.  It made me very proud!

The whole week was incredible, but I think that my favorite part of the trip was going out on the ski boat in the evenings.  We caught some of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen.  There’s just nothing like being out on glassy water and watching the sun burn in bright beautiful colors as the day comes to a close.

So there you have it, friends.  A peek into what our family vacations look like.  This one in particular will go down in my mind as the best vacation to date.  Can’t wait to do it again soon!

  1. We certainly try to have as much fun as we possibly can whenever we are together :) I think those are the best kind of vacations!
